I spent last week in the hospital and the past few days in out-patient therapy .... I "graduated" today.
While I was in the hospital they changed my meds a bit.  Apparently my kidneys could not handle Lithium.
They upped my Welbutrin to 450 mg and added Abilify 5 mg, then 10 mg.
My doc had me add a small dose of Zoloft back in to help with the spontaneous crying (k, I loved your message on crying)

I know Abilify was covered in another topic, but any new info experiences, comments, etc.

I'm having Deja Vue (sp?) ..... Have I said any of this recently?

(did you know May is "Mental Health Month"? )

Ramji, i am with Phyllis.. i hope abilify works well for you... i really loved the stuff, and it helped me so much; however, same old stuff for me -- rare side effects... i'm a weirdo, i have to point that out.. heehee.

Ramji, sorry you were in the hospital, but thankfully you are getting the good help you deserve... and your doc's paying attention...

take good care!

Thanks, everyone.  I am feeling much better.  I return to work on Tuesday ..... and I still have a job.

One doc in the hospital said something about Abilify working better at higher doses because there are less side effects .... (?)

I haven't heard that, but it could be possible. I am pretty much on low doses of all my meds. My case is a little dab will do ya. Of course, I don't get manic all that often. But it sure helps keep it at bay and takes those racing thoughts away too.

Thanks again, everyone..... I appreciate your comments.

Paz,

I really hoped the Lithium would do it.  As you know .... if the body has trouble processing it, then it will build up and become toxic.

The Abilify seems to be working so far.  One of the therapists told me is an anti-psychotic.  If so, it's the first one that hasn't just knocked me out.

Yes, indeed. It is an anti-psychotic.

Wow..Ramji...I'm sooooo glad to hear from you. Hospital stay? I didn't see that one coming. Anyway, Abilify was horrible for me at first, but my pdoc asked my to stick it out for a little while and that the side effects would subside. I did continue taking it and the side effects did subside. I can't remember why we ditched that drug. I wasn't on it all that long. I think maybe 2 or 3 months...Man, I've missed 'ya.

that was a long week without you ramji. i'm sorry the lithium didn't work out. hopefully your tremors have stopped now and hopefully the abilify will work for you.  i started geodon and like abilify it doesn't knock you out like seroquel. it pretty much just stops the racing and i've noticed it doesn't cause appetite stimulation = gosh darnit i guess i'm actually going to have to do something about that weight now...
glad your back we all love you!

I've been on Abilify for about 3 months, 1 month at 15mg and it's still making me so tired. Seeing the doctor again in a couple of weeks. How long did it take for everyone else to lose their side effects? Sorry to hear you ended up in the hospital Ramji and I hope the new meds work well for you.
