Does anyone have any good techniques for controlling your emotions? If so I'd love to hear them. Cause I am having trouble keeping my emotions in check. And worried I might have an outburst on my family or someone at the super market.

I am so manic I'm gonna respond to my own post.
When in a rage scream into a pillow till hoarse. When feeling sad or depressed or mad or manic post like hell on here.

this is something that I am trying to learn, myself. It is difficult, but I try and stop myself before I get ready to blow and either leave the situation or count to 10 in my head. This only helps a little. But, I guess a little is better than not at all.

Honestly I don't have any really great ways of controlling my emotions. The only things that really help are Journaling and talking to my friends. I need to get the feelings out and then I can process them. BUT when I'm out and about and feeling super irritable or just feel like lashing out at those around me I find that doing some square breathing can be very helpful. I encourage you to try it at least once. It doesn't fix things but helps when you can't do anything else. So square breathing is this: breath in for 4 seconds, hold for 4 seconds, breath out for 4 seconds, hold for 4 seconds and start over. Usually about 4-5 cycles of that and I start to feel better.

i think there's no such thing,i read a "fact" about bipolar ,a summary if you will..bipolar is when the parts of the brain that control emotions ,short circuits causing irrational and uncontrollable mood swings..it's so simple hey, these people have no bloody idea.my husband usually helps me cos sometimes i don't know what i am doing.thats my life,,,sometimes that what i hate ,having no idea how you will react to things,it could be the same thing on 2 different days and 2 different responses depending on the electrical current in your head at the time, well it's always a surprise.all of these reasons for control,is what i use i think,i just don't go near other people very much, they are the ones that have a problem with emotional outbursts,my animals don't care if i scream, laugh or cry they love me the same,so do my kids and my husband,,so i am one for if you feel it just let it happen.show it.just be careful about who's watching....

I just stay out of situations I can't handle. Other than that, mindfulness helps but shit happens sometimes and you go off on someone or whatever.

When i'm around ppl and i can't control my emotions....like if i feel myself gettin irritated i lightly tap my foot or pat my leg to signal to my brain that we can't flip out right now.
When i'm feeling very manic OR very depressed i tend to stay away form ppl or i stay in bed.
If i'm really angry i go for a drive around town to ease my mind.....i love to drive.
When my mind is racing i talk to my bf or write in my journal.

i think the worst is when your so far gone that you don't know you are,,control is just out of the question then, thats when an understanding husband comes in handy, pulls you out of situations that are regretful, before you do something really stupid...

I happen to be so lucky for the moment my husband is understanding. I am trying to keep my emotions in check so that way I don't have any reason to have my husband regret me coming home. After me up and leaving and coming back 4X each.
