Does therapy help?  I was diagnosed Bipolar and PTSD and have never went to a therapist or counselor.  I have always felt that I know most of my triggers and where the anxiety comes from.  But lately I have started to wonder if other options would be helpful.  I guess I am afraid of not knowing what to say and feeling like I'm wasting my time.  As for now they haven't found the right meds for me so I was wondering how people felt about therapy.

all the times I have been to therapy.... going back to when I was 15, all I have done is bitch about stuff that pisses me off. once when I was diagnosed with PTSD my therapist at the time thought it would be a good idea to use visualization techniques... that did nothing for me. So I dunno if I can actually say it has helped me or not. Sometimes yes, sometimes no. I guess it depends on the therapist and how willing you are to get to the bottom of the things that are causing you problems.

Thanks Phyllis,
That is pretty much the type of answer I was expecting, I guess I'm just wishing on a miracle pick me up.

I think it can help a lot if you find a good therapist.  A good one is one who helps you see how your thoughts are irrational and helps you turn them in the right direction, in general not just for sepcific things.

When I was first diagnosed and on meds, therapy helped a bit, then I felt like it was a waste of time, but I actually did absorb a lot of the info and coping skills and when my head got clear from meds I was actually able to use the info and implement the coping skills. Now I usually feel much more in control of my life & moods, but occasionally I do mood swing...but now they seem less severe because I actually use the knowledge that I have...mindfulness is key to living with this thing in my opinion & experience, but remember that everyone is different, and what works for some does not necessarily work for all.
