Was prescribed Venlafaxine a month ago and so far it hasn't done much aside from I now take my Oxazepam at 8pm and on the nights I can sleep I'll sleep until 3pm the next day, it's like I can't even move I'm so tired in the morning. Anyone else take this? If so how effective was it and is the general sleepiness normal?

I was on it just a few months ago. I didn't have a lot of success with it but I haven't had success with any anti-depressants. The only thing that helped me was the seroquel, so it made the antidepressants look like they were doing something.

I haven't taken seroquel yet, but I've taken paxil, zoloft, and currently Venlafaxine. It has also been the only anti depressant that has done nothing for me, but caused withdrawal from me not taking it.The others I quit cold turkey with no withdrawal.

The seroquel really helped me but after hearing about all the awful things it does to you, I wanted off it.

Yeah that seems to be my issue too, I'll take something but read all the scary side effects and and go f**k this I don't want any of those. lol Especially when they seem to be able to potentially cause more problems than they fix.

Yes exactly. I guess we just have to see the the positives outweigh the negatives.

Reading about side effects can be really scary! I think Its important to remember that most meds have a long list of possible side effects. What matters is how the med works for you. Its a lot of trial  and error but if the med works with minimal side effects then I say go for it! Just my opinion. I was on seroquel for 9months to help me sleep. I took a very low dose and I loved it! For some reason at the 9 month mark I started experiencing side effects. At that time I felt the side effects were outweighing the benefits. I stopped taking it and moved on. I guess my point is try not to let the possible side effects scare you away from what might work for your specific case. I hope you find something that works that you are comfortable with!

I'd agree that for me seroquel worked very well to control bipolar symptoms. I just couldn't deal with being so overweight and tired all the time. I've been off it for about 5 months, and still trying to lose the weight I put on. I was not as concerned about the long term side effects, but glad that I am off it. Still I guess I do not know what the long term effects of lamotrigine will be, but at least I have none now.

That's the side effect that worries me most is the weight gain. I worked my ass off to lose 35 pounds and I don't want to gain it back!  Wink I'm a super hypochondriac too (part of GAD I think) so any time I get a headache, etc, I automatically think the worst. lol I'll definitely keep looking for meds that work for me though, thanks for the support. If you are worried about the weight gain, then yeah I would not go near seroquel. I put on about 30kg in about 5 months on it. 6kg in the first week and a half! Well that is probably not completely fair (I was weening off sodium Valproate for that 10 days).

I actually didn't have any weight gain on the seroquel. I really did love it and had great success but when I started reading some of the stuff on here I got very worried. I guess that's another issue with having anxiety. Wink
