just a question as i found it odd......can you and is it safe to give someone two different  antisychotics at the same time?
after my last pdoc visit the outcome was that as well as the aripiprazole i take they want me to take quetiapine alongside it........he did sit there in silence reading  a medication book and scratching his head for a while before he came to this decision.....
maybe it is just me but it seems an odd choice to me
at the time i just thought what the hell another tablet to add to my collection

I'm on both Abilify and Seroquel. It is not as uncommon as you think for one to be on 2 antipsychotics. Some work very well for mania only while others work wonders on boosting depression. Of course there are people who think it is redundant to be on more than 1. It all depends on your type of med therapy, Dr. and your emotional place. If you feel uncomfortable taking 2, let your doc know. I can tell you after much more research that I have done, that Seroquel does A LOT of damage to your body. Abilify is a lot less "toxic" for lack of a better word, but I find that seroquel works best. Just my opinion. Abilify works, but it is a lot less milder than seroquel in my opinion.

I dont think it's good practice--it increases the possibility of tardive, but they do it quite frequently--I'm taking two of them in the evening, now--dont like it, but hell, I"m just the patient, I dont have anything to say about it!

clayton why do you say that you don't have anything to say about it??  aren't you able to tell your doc you won't take something?  it's weird but i have been willing to put up with all the possible side effects of seroquel - like diabetes or heart attack or liver problems but i would not stay on any of the old antipsychotics because i was so frightened of tardive.  i know the new ones still have a risk but it's suppose to be a much smaller one.

thank you guys for reading.....
like you phyllis i will be on abilify and serequel along with my other cocktail......i guess that i just wanted some assurance that it was acceptable to take two antisycotics.
after reading up about serequel it sounds like a very fun drug to take.......not.alittler concerned with the diabetes as it is already in my family, the thyroid problems and tardive dyskinsia which i already have will it make it much worse....who knows
i guess if i really dont get on with it i can just go back to what i was taking before.....it al worries me a little as i am being discharged from care again so no more check ups apart from blood tests.im concerned that once on a new drug for me.....things could go wrong again and i will be unaware

well, at least you will be getting your blood checked. that is a good thing while your on it. no docs ever told me that i needed to get blood work done while i was on this shit, so i waited until it was too late, essentially.

why no clayton i've never heard of sarcasm!    you know clayton i'm not quite sure why it is you don't care for me but i have genuinely been interested in a lot of your posts and your life in general.  you've had a great amount of experiences that i have found facinating.  i not only missed you not being on the board for so long but i actually was worried about you.  i will refrain from asking questions to your posts just in case i might offend you for not knowing sarcasm when it's just so obvious.
