And what can a doc say, anyway? We know damn well that they don't take the shit they prescribe.
I think in addition to this, it's also important to remember that in addition to the doctor/patient relationship, we also have a doctor/customer relationship. Many people seem to have the attitude that what the doctor says can't be questioned, but as with any company we do business with, if we don't like the service we're receiving it's up to us to make that problem known. If we don't like our doctors or disagree with their opinions, we need to speak up and say so, not continue down a path we don't really agree with. Usually that just ends with the patient doing whatever it was they wanted to do anyway, and no one's happy.
I used to give my doctor a hard time for giving me "that look" when I mentioned I was a smoker. My response was, "Screw you doc. I may be a smoker, but you're 100 pounds overweight. So where do you get off with that 'I'm better than you' attitude?" I quit smoking years ago and lost 100 pounds, doctor's only gotten fatter since then. I don't take the family to the doctor very often, and they act surprised when I talk to them like I've actually done some research and know what I'm talking about. Sometimes I think I get more respect from our vet when I took the cat in and described his symptoms. A lot of doctors seem to live in this world where they're not used to people questioning them or being able to talk to them like equals, and I think some get cynical over time and start treating everyone like an idiot. I wouldn't put up with that attitude from any other person I do business with, why should I let my doctor get away with it?
Don't let your doctor push you around; if you disagree, say something.
