Just curious to see your thoughts on the Karma functionality on the site.

I didn't see an option that really fit for me:
I look at the karma occasionally, mostly just to see if something I've said recently has a positive or negative reception.
Perhaps a more accurate way of judging that would be a way of voting actual posts up or down, rather than posters, but I don't expect you to break your neck getting something like that implemented.

Voting posts is a cool idea! Wish that I had thought of that. This forum and the chat are free programs that I just tweaked to suit my needs. I am no sure if I have the ability to add voting to individual posts. I am a piss poor programmer.

Another board I post on found an add-on to enable post voting, but they're using phpbb rather than SMF.
From SMF's documentation, it looks like it's all written in PHP, including any modifications. I'm fairly familiar with PHP, did some freelance work for someone with a site that ran PHP once. That was a few years back, but I don't think the language has changed too much since then.

I have written an essay on my blog called Karma and Naishkarma, and I recommend you read it.Basically, Sri Krsna says, "That which leads to the creation of another body is called karma." The word means work.

I could get into a long philosphical discussion about whas karma is and is not. However, in this case, Karma is something used to either applaud or smite. You applaud someone if they write a good post or were very helpful. You smite them if you feel that their answer is a little rude or if they are being.... well.... rude, to use an umbrella phrase.

yes. For instance, right now you have 3 Karma points. If someone smited you, your Karma would go down to 2 Karma points.
